HTC Touch Diamond 2 Review

HTC's original Touch Diamond  was a good enough Windows Mobile device when it was launched, but inevitably as time has gone by it has dropped back in the specifications race. And so HTC recently announced an updated version, rather uninspiringly called the Touch Diamond 2.

A smallish format device, it has a robust shell. It is light enough at 117g, but its 107.85 x 53.1 x 13.7mm make it a somewhat chunky smartphone to hold. The good news is that HTC has abandoned the ‘diamond cut' look of the back of the casing. That made it impossible to sit the original Touch Diamond flat on a desk. The Touch Diamond 2 has a more conventional flat back.

The shell size leaves room for both a reasonably-sized screen and one of the identifying features of this phone, the zoom bar. The screen measures 3.2 inches across diagonal corners and its 480 x 800 pixels are becoming the standard for higher end Windows Mobile devices. The screen is sharp and clear

That zoom bar sits immediately beneath the screen and above the Call, End, Back and Windows start button. The Zoom bar is essentially a touch-strip you can use for zooming in a range of applications. It works with the Web browser, documents and photos, text messages and email. It is responsive, and so zooming by dragging a finger along the bar is generally a pleasant and efficient experience.

HTC has developed its TouchFLO system further, so that Windows Mobile 6.1's user interface is hidden deeper than ever underneath a finger-friendly user interface. One innovation here is a new way of managing communications. You can now see an individual's full communications history in one place. This brings together voice, text and email communications in one contact page, so you can see what you've shared with a person most recently without having to flit between applications.

The general specifications are good. There is a 5-megapixel camera, which is the highest specification you'll currently find on a Windows Mobile device. It has no flash, though, and HTC does not offer a huge amount by way of features and tweaks. There is a front camera for two-way video calling.

This is an HSDPA device with support all the way up to 7.2Mbps. The Opera Web browser complements Internet Explorer, and using the former you can preset a few Web pages to load automatically so your favourites are always on hand and up to date. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both built in, and GPS is here too.

There is 512MB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for adding more (the original Touch Diamond had 4GB of built-in storage and no expansion). The headset connector is sadly mini-USB rather than 3.5mm audio, and this is an area HTC really does need to address so that its customers can make easy use of their own choice of headphones.

HTC Touch Pro 2 Review

HTC Touch Pro 2 a fantastically designed mobile phone with business and communications at the core. Featuring a slide 5 row QWERTY keyboard, adjustable tilt screen for a more advanced viewing experience with well raised spaced out keys makes a superb on the go computer experience. The fantastic TFT-LCD touch sensitive screen is a massive 3.6 inches with WGA 480 x 800 pixels resolution. We think the weight of the Touch Pro2 is justified at 175g which is a little over 6.17 ounces with dimensions of 116mm x 59.2mm x 17.25mm which again we feel is a great sized handset for its purpose. Zoom Bar and Touch Pro 3D technologies are present on the Touch pro2 like the HTC Touch Diamond 2  mobile phone. The Zoom Bar enables the user to in and out when viewing web pages or images with precision while the Touch Pro 3D technology gives the user touch control over their phone when browsing and selecting menus. The Touch Pro2 works on a Windows mobile 6.1 Professional operating system.

Connectivity and network technologies featured on the Touch Pro2 mobile phone include Bluetooth 2.0 with enhanced data rates and A2DP, Wi-Fi, HTC ExtUSB (11-pin mini USB 2.0) along with an internal GPS antenna technology. The HTC Touch Pro2 operates on a Quad-band network which covers GSM/GPRS/EDGE – 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA/WCDMA – 900/2100.

There is 3.2 mega-pixel camera feature with auto-focus on the HTC Touch Pro2 mobile phone along with a great selection imaging setting and settings enabling the user to take fantastic quality photo's. The user can also enjoy the second VGA CMOS colour camera so the user can enjoy a more one one face-to-face phone call with other compatible users with the same capabilities. The user can record their own personal video clips with built-in video recorder with play-back video formats of WMV, ASF, MP4, 3G2, 3GP, AVI and M4V.

For entertainment the user can enjoy the built-in music player system with supported music file formats of AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, QCP, MP3, WMA, WAV, MIDI and M4A. There is also an FM Radio for the user to listen to their favourite radio stations and catch up with all the latest news, travel and weather information with just a touch. There is 512 mega-bytes of built-in ROM memory as well as 288 mega-bytes of RAM but the user can increase this with a MicroSD™ memory card SD 2.0 compatible to provide much more storage space.

When it comes to the call expectancy on the gorgeous HTC Touch Pro2 mobile phone the user can expect up to nearly 7 hours of GSM talk time and up to 348 hours of GSM stand-by time. The WCDMA time includes up to 4.5 hours of talk time and up to 454 hours of stand-by time. Alternatively the user can enjoy up to an enormous 150 hours of video call but of course this will depend on how much the phone has been used for other purposes.

HTC Snap Review

Here we have the HTC Snap mobile phone that comes available in a rich dark brown coloured casing. There is a full QWERTY keyboard (much like the blackberry’s) that is displayed on the front of the handset which is very user friendly. A large and well proportioned screen dominates the front of this looking mobile phone. The TFT-LCD screen is 2.4 inches in size with screen resolutions of 320 x 240 pixels makes for clear and colourful displayed images for the user to enjoy. This 3G Smart-phone weighs a respectable 120g and measures 116.5mm x 61.5mm x 12mm. Ok, it is a not a neat and compact mobile phone but still these are great measurements for a handset that comprises a full QWERTY keyboard feature. Users can look forward to gaining up to 8.5 hours of GSM talk time and up to 380 hours of GSM stand-by time. This also converts into 5 hours of WCDMA talk time and up to 480 of HSDPA stand-by time. The HTC Snap works on a Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 Operating System with a Qualcomm Processor, for those in the know.

Internet & Connectivity
Users can enjoy speedy connections to the internet whilst on the move via the built-in HTML web browsing technologies on the HTC Snap mobile phone. With the assistance of the 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi®, GPRS and EDGE technologies the user can enjoy a great quality of service. Wi-Fi® is particularly useful for connecting to the internet when abroad as it is a lot cheaper of using 2G or 3G when roaming on a foreign network. Prices for downloading data while abroad can be anything from £1.50 to £7.50 per MB depending on your network at home. The HTC Snap operates on a Quad-band network which covers GSM – 850/900/1800/1900 & HSDPA – 900/2100 allowing the user to make full use of the roaming the facility whilst abroad. Connecting to other compatible devices is a breeze with the available Bluetooth and USB devices.

Camera & Imaging
There is a 2 mega-pixel function on the HTC Snap allowing users to capture some snap shots as and when they please. The camera feature comes with Fixed Focus and a Photo Album functions. There are also video recording abilities to enable the user to capture moving video footage. The video player records in a variety of formats including WMV, ASF, 3GP, MP4, AVI, 3G2 and M4V video file formats. Although the HTC Snap does not have a high quality camera function users can still enjoy the benefits of capturing snap shots on their mobile phone and with quality. Plus we must remember the HTC Snap is more of a business/email handset rather than a multimedia phone.

Music Entertainment
For those who love listening to their music via their mobile phone handset, users can enjoy the built-in music player on the HTC Snap. Supported music file formats include MP3, WMA, MIDI, WAV, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, QCP and AWB. All of these formats enables the user to enjoy a great mobile music listening experience. Users can make their HTC Snap mobile phone sound unique by adding a ring-tone. The user can choose from a selection of MP3 and Polyphonic ring-tones to jazz up their handset. There is 192 mega-bytes of RAM memory plus 256 mega-bytes of ROM memory on the HTC Snap plus a MicroSD™ memory card which enables the user to increase the memory to accommodate for all the users photo's, music, videos and downloads.

Messaging Services
The HTC Snap includes the usual messaging services we have become accustomed with our mobile phones. These services include SMS, MMS (multi-media messaging), instant messaging and last but not least emailing. There are no more excuses to not keep in contact when a message can take just seconds to create and send. Having a full QWERTY keyboard on the HTC Snap makes creating these messages alot quicker than using a standard phone where you have to sometimes press a key three times just to type one character. HTC have introduced a new feature on the snap called inner circle. This helps the user prioritise there emails, by providing contacts with a priority when the user presses a specific button the emails from the priority contacts will appear at the top of the users inbox. The ‘inner circle’ is a really simple idea, does not need extra technology which increases costs but we think the users will find this function extremely handy.

Applications & Gaming
Application tools are those fabulous features we come to rely on when in need of assistance in many a task. Users can take comfort in the fact that getting lost is a thing of the past especially with the built-in Google Maps and GPS Navigation technologies. Other applications present on the HTC Snap mobile phone include a Document Viewer, Alarm Clock and a Calendar to name only a few.

For gaming entertainment the user can enjoy the downloadable games feature, enabling the user to cater purely to their own individual gaming taste and requirements. Please check before using this service as there maybe a small cost involved.

Summary
The HTC Snap is a basic HTC mobile phone compared to the HTC Touch Diamond 2 the HTC Touch Cruise 09 and the HTC Magic mobile phones which are high quality technology featured handsets that features more business applications. This stylish looking handset can be enjoyed by personal users who do not require all the high quality technologies of those of the business user. Still, the HTC Snap is a great looking mobile phone with many great qualities but at a guess just without the price tag.

HTC Touch Pro Review

HTC Touch Pro is the newest model from HTC Touch Cruise  which has long exist. Of course at this time it is released with more advantages. In previous time, Touch 3G has been launched to improve the focus system on the Touch network. But, some people say that Touch Pro will become the most perfect model of HTC Touch. Let’s see more.

Design
Different with the previous versions, Touch Pro desaign looks unique. It has trapezium model with larger size, and also has QWERTY keyboard slider on the back side. This concept have often shown on the previous HTC smart phone like S740, but on the Touch Pro you will find TouchFlo feature as one characteristics Touch devices, combined with interesting design.

Touch Pro seems want to show more about the multimedia side. But honestly, it’s big size just disturb the appearance, moreover if this is compared with the business mobile phone which usually have slim body. But you need to know that this large size could support the QWERTY keyboard.

Actually the QWERTY keyboard on Touch Pro is the plus value. The model looks like keyboard on a laptop or computer. Lamp effect which is shown on the S740 is also given to Touch Pro for helping us, so we could typing faster with clear notification.

Interface
Like the previous version, Touch Pro is a pocket PC device. The operating system using Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The main characteristic of this device are the touch screen facility and Pro also have this with 65.536 color TFT screen with VGA resolution. This is larger than the Blackberry Curve and Bold Javelin.

The touch screen complete the interface of Touch Pro. You could access the menus via touchscreen or by using QWRTY keyboard via D-pad on the bottom panel.

In addition, the power of Touch Pro is in the TouchFlo feature that could work like an Apple iPhone. For you who feel more comfort using the stick stylus, Touch Pro still provide this facility although with minimal function.

Processor and memory
Touch Pro use Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528 MHz, the same with S740. The RAM is quite large, about 288MB DDR. The interesting part, Touch Pro has separate 64 MB RAM chip just for graphics need, so that will not influence the phone perform. The RAM separation could produce good quality of the image.

Excellent features
Mobile office
The Windows mobile on this product have been supported with office document formats. So we can process words, excel, and powerpoint. It is also supported by the interface technology includes QWERTY keyboard, touch screen, and virtual keyboard like the other pocketPc.

Email and data channel
Touch pro has better ability than HTC Touch. This is proved by the availability of 3G HSDPA network on the cell phone. The data transfer speed reaches 7.2 Mbps. With HSDPA you can get various videocall services such as 3G, video streaming, and internet browsing at high speed via Pocket IE and Opera. So, no wonder if this cell phone provide You Tube service in pre-install system.
However Touch Pro is a Windows Mobile device, so there are no many things we can do with email facilities. But, don’t worry you can still enjoy the private email from this Cell phone by install the email services from yahoo, google or hotmail easily.

Multimedia
Believe it or not, HTC product always give more multimedia facilities than other PDA cell phone. And this is the key of HTC. There are audio player that is integrated with TouchFlo theme, audio booster that can improve audio quality via headset, then video streaming, and windows media player mobile. Touch Pro also has 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, FM radio, mp3 trimer, and other applications.

Connectivity
Touch Pro provide all kind of connections in a cell phone. There are USB cable, Bluetooth 2.0 version, WIFI IEEE 802.11 b/g and TV out. But for TV out, HTC doesn’t provide it in one pack.

GPS
This cell phone is completed with GPS receiver, but the function becoming less because it is not completed with navigation features and digital map.

Battery
As a mobile phone, Touch Pro almost have complete features. There are trusted OS, HSDPA, slide mechanism, multimedia, camera, WIFI, and all of them spend a lot of energy. The battery is lithium ion 1340 mAh. For once charging, it can be last until 2 and a half days for normal used.

HTC Legend Review

The HTC Legend  was designed as the successor of HTC Hero, which was proclaimed the best mobile phone in 2009 by the Mobile World Congress commission.

The Legend is a scaled back version of the very popular HTC handset, the Droid Incredible (or Desire in the European market). It is powered by Android OS 2.1 combined with HTC's advanced user interface Sense UI. Its hardware features a 5 MP camera, 600 MHz processor, and an 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors.

Coincidentally or not, HTC introduced Legend in Barcelona in February this year, on the very day the company won a prestigious award for Hero. Legend was introduced into European market in a mere three months, and its arrival to the US market is expected very soon.

Even though Legend is not the most powerful HTC Android-based handset available, it does have some advantages over the mightier Droid Incredible (and Desire): lower price and more convenient size, while retaining all features. That, alas, does not mean it is bereft of inadequacies...

BUILD & DESIGN

While the HTC Legend looks a lot like the Hero, there are some non-negligible differences in its hardware (and software too). Its casing is made of a single piece of aluminum, which makes it extremely robust. However, it also makes it feel rather heavy, unseemly for such a conveniently sized handset 4.1 x 2.2 x 0.5 inches (112×56×11 mm).

Thus the Legend seems to weigh more than its 4.5 ounces (126 grams). That, though, makes it radiate robustness. It is unlikely to break or scratch even if you do not treat your gadgets at all gently and carefully.

Button placement is not one of this handset's best features. You have to press a button on the top edge to wake it from standby, but if you are left-handed, you are likely to press the volume up/down button with your thumb in the process. It is quite irritating at first, but in time you will learn to avoid this anomaly. After all, there is bound to be an app for reprogramming control buttons at Android Market.

While Hero did not have this problem, Legend does improve on its design by using a trackpoint instead of Hero's trackball. The trackpoint ensures Legend's users will have quite fewer problems with dust, dirt and sticking.

The trackpoint is placed at the very bottom of the handset's front, with four control buttons above it. The buttons are used for - going from left to right - returning to the home screen, menu activation, stepping back, and activating the search engine.

Display
The handset features a brilliant 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive Touchscreen with color depth of 16 million colors (which is not even supported under older versions of Android OS). The display size is the same as Hero's, but it is built using different technology, so Legend has better contrast and livelier colors. The screen resolution is 320×480 pixels, which is a good choice for this screen size. A higher resolution, such as Droid Incredible's, would significantly increase battery consumption and required processing power, as well as raise the handset's price, while making little difference to the naked eye.

Image sharpness is exquisite. However, all the display's great features are lost in sunlight. In direct sunlight practically nothing can be seen, which is one of the display's greatest faults. We wouldn't mind it so much if we didn't know of displays which work just fine in sunlight, such as those on BlackBerry Bold (all models).

There are several apps on Android Market which dinamically adjust the display contrast according to external lighting conditions, but they mitigate this issue only slightly. If you live in a sunny climate and tend to use your phone in the open, this issue might be a reason to give up on Legend. Otherwise, though, you are bound to love its display.

PERFORMANCE
The HTC Legend features Android OS 2.1, as well as HTC Sense UI, the user interface that gives it an edge over other handsets featuring Google's OS. Sense UI relies greatly on pinching; this, of course, means multitouch is also supported.

The advantages of this user interface are especially noticeable while listing home screens (seven of them), zooming web pages and photos, and selecting text. Speaking of home screens, all seven can be completely personalized and equipped with various widgets, icons, shortcuts and other things that make your daily use of the handset quicker and more comfortable.

While most Android handsets' UI upgrades make them oriented towards a certain user group (e.g. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is focused on multimedia and social networking), the Legend is fully customizable and adjustable to fit all affinities, which is another great advantage of the Sense UI. Thus you can put social networking widgets on one screen and monitor in real time your friends' statuses; another screen can be used for GPS; another for games; yet another for RSS feeds, speed dial and so forth.

The handset is rather fast even though it is not equipped with the fastest smartphone CPU available, the Qualcomm 1 GHz Snapdragon used in several other HTC models. Still, the Legend also features a Qualcomm CPU, but running at 600 MHz. In practice you are not likely to notice the difference, primarily because the screen resolution is not too high and therefore not too strenuos on the processor.

The handset is equipped with 384 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM, as well as a microSD card slot which accepts cards of up to 32 GB. The handset's internal memory will not suffice for more complex use and especially multimedia; a microSD card of at least 2 GB is advised.

A microUSB v2.0 port is used for both connecting to a computer for transfering files and for charging the battery.

Wireless/Call Quality
The HTC Legend supports all 2G frequency bands and, in the American market version, two 3G bands - HSDPA 850 and HSDPA 1900. The non-US version supports another pair of 3G bands, HSDPA 900 and HSDPA 2100, so 3G network usage may pose a problem to frequent intercontinental travelers. In those cases you may have to fall back to 2G protocols and the built-in Wi-Fi antenna. Legend also features Bluetooth v2.1 and GPS.

Call quality is extremely high. The other party both hears and is heard loud and clear. Furthermore, the Sense UI provides a very practical and intuitive dialer, which makes this handset one of the Android OS phones best suited for voice communications. It would be nice, however, if recent calls statistics were a bit more detailed.

The Legend can be finely tuned regarding Wi-Fi versus 3G traffic. For instance, you can set up the smartphone to never use 3G networks, thus preventing it from generating expensive traffic. Instead, it will automatically recognize Wi-Fi networks and only then will it synchronize all the active internet services, from Facebook to e-mail. Naturally, password-protected Wi-Fi networks will be remembered upon the entry of the password. Furthermore, 3G traffic can also be disabled in roaming only. All in all, useful, practical, and simple... Legend roams the seas of mobile internet incredibly swiftly, while making it possible to keep the costs low.

Productivity
Among the more useful widgets in the Legend's collection is the one for real-time e-mail tracking. All relevant e-mail services are supported, from Gmail to Microsoft Exchange. Clearly, all that generates quite a bit of internet traffic.

The web browser is another strong point of this handset. It renders web pages flawlessly, and the pinch zoom is very precise. Flash is also supported, which is a great advantage. Even though its display is smaller than iPhone's, Legend (along with Droid Incredible) is the only smartphone available which can be said to provide a better feel to web browsing than iPhone. Simply put, web surfing is smooth, intuitive, fast and precise.

You will, however, encounter minor issues with typing while holding the handset vertically. Its small size reflects on the size of the virtual keyboard, so despite the touchscreen's high precision, it takes some getting used to this kind of text input. Text input in the horizontal position, however, is much more convenient.

Camera
The built-in camera is average -- neither notably good nor bad. Images taken with the 5 megapixel camera look average; I have seen both better and worse photos taken with mobile phones. In good lighting conditions, the colors are live and realistic, but the images are not very sharp. In contrast, pictures taken in darker environments tend to be sharper, but the colors are pale and cold.

The photo viewing software, however, is very simple and intuitive. The Legend's excellent implementation of multitouch comes to play agin. Image browsing is very simple -- faster finger strokes for browsing through a large number of images, slower ones for viewing images one by one. Pinch zoom is very precise, too.

Battery
Intensive use of all the Legend's functions allows for a battery life of less than two days. When your initial enthusiasm and the impulse for constant fidgeting with Legend ebb, battery life will, as usual, increase.

Since the screen is not very large and its resolution is not excessively high, longer battery life would be expected. However, this handset uses 3G and Wi-Fi rather heavily. Furthermore, since many applications require GPS, its huge energy requirements are more understandable and acceptable.
