Huawei U8100 Aviator Review

Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone is one of the cheap Android cell phones that available in Android cell phone market. This cell phone design is asymmetric. The bottom part is smaller than top part. The back side is convex, follow the hand curve. The body looks professional and modern with silver-black combination. For other color choice, there is pink and black combination. The front look is dominated by the 2.8 inches touch screen. At below screen, there are three haptic buttons which are homescreen, menu, and back. At very bottom, there are three physical buttons which are dial-on, navigation-execution, and dial off.

As usual, there are many additional buttons at the side part. At the right side, there is volume control and camera button. At the bottom side, there is 3.5 mm audio jack. At top side, there is key-off button and micro USB port. At the behind, there is speaker body and camera. There is no physical keypad in this Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone. To compensate it, there are three kinds of keypad virtual which are QWERTY, semi QWERTY, and alphanumeric. Unfortunately, there is no stylus available for this cell phone so it may reduce the usage comfort.

The screen is 2.8 inches, 256K colors, 240×320 pixels, QVGA, TFT (Thin Film Transistor) resistive touch screen. TFT is the liquid crystal display that used for computer screen and touch screen. TFT offers bright and sharp display. The resistive technology is less sensitive than capacitive technology but Huawei U8100 Aviator screen is still comfort to use in my opinion. This cell phone is equipped with accelerometer which offers easy change from horizontal to vertical mode and vice versa. The best from this cell phone is that the homescreen is unlimited. As default, there are 15 homescreen but users can add it freely.

There are four themes for the homescreen which are default, entertainment, social life, and work. Each theme has its own application folder, and widget which will automatically appear each time a theme is chosen. Users can add more widgets by using Add to Homescreen table. At the top part of homescreen, there is notification page that can be scrolled down to show the running application, downloading status, network connection status, battery status, watch, and date. At the bottom part of homescreen, there five shortcuts which are menu, dialer, contact, messaging, and icon that can be used to show the entire homescreen page in the screen.

This Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone uses Android 2.1 (Eclair) as its operating system. Android Eclair offers live wallpaper and multiple Email account capability. Users also can use screen application to find the place location or tweet location. This screen application is combined with GPS feature. Users also can download any kind of Android application from Android Market. As default application, there is Google applications, BuUuk (restaurant finder), social networking, Servo (database searching tool), YouTube, and Wireless Tether. From these many application, it seems Wireless Tether is the mainstay application.

Wireless Tether make Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone become a WiFi router. It means that by using Wireless Tether at Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone, users can do internet connection freely by using their laptop, netbook, other cell phones, or tablet. It can be said the users have their private hotspot. It is perfect for traveler indeed. For data connectivity, this cell phone supports HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, EDGE Class 10, GPRS class 10, WiFi 802.11 b/g. For other connectivity, there is Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, micro USB v2.0, and 3.5 mm audio jack. The multimedia features is complete enough with the camera, audio-video player, FM radio, and sound recorder.

For network, Huawei U8100 Aviator cell phone supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and HSPA 900/1200 MHz. The battery is Li-ion 1150 mAh which offers 3 hours talk-time and 3 days standby time. The supporting messaging is SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, and IM. In my opinion, with the cheap price, this cell phone is worthy to try if you want to have a private WiFi router.
